.ie Domains Update: New restore process

.ie Domains Update: New Restore process

We’re sure that many of you have your own .ie domain. It is, after all, a key asset to any organisation trading within Ireland.

We would like to let you all know about an upcoming change to the way that renewals of significantly overdue domains will work.

What is happening?

As from 1st August 2025 the Irish Domain Registry are introducing a new €48 restore fee for domains that are more than 45 days overdue.

Once a .ie domain is overdue for renewal, it can still be renewed at the normal price for a period of 45 days.

When that 45-day period has elapsed, the domain will then enter a redemption period for a further 30 days. During those 30 days, renewing the domain will require an additional restore fee to be paid, as well as the usual renewal fee.

The Registry have set this fee at €48 + VAT, which we will pass on as is with no extra mark-up.

After that 30-day redemption period has elapsed, the domain will then become unavailable for renewal. Around 5 days later it will appear back on the open market for anyone else to register.

How does this affect me?

As long as your domain is renewed within 45 days of the renewal date then this will not affect you at all.

The additional restore fee will only be needed when renewing domains that are over 45 days past their due date.

Any questions?
