Backup Systems - Continuous Data Protection
Introduction
LetsHost have partnered with R1Soft.com to provide Continuous Data Protection (CDP) on each of its shared hosting and VPS servers making an "enterprise-level backup solution".
Our Customers now have the ability to roll-back their entire account or select individual files to recover from any deletions or corruptions that may occur.
Every shared hosting account is backed up 4 times daily, kept for 6 days. 4 weekly snapshots of every file are also maintained. This provides a massive improvement on the daily backups that were available previously. VPS hosting is backed up once per day, and CDP is also available as an add on to our dedicated server offering on a schedule defined by the customer.
Shared hosting customers can now avail of the CDP server to manage their files themselves. You can be safe in the knowledge that your data is secured and recoverable in the event of accidental deletion or corruption. Many customers depend on emails and data stored on their websites for their businesses to function. This extra level of backup protection gives peace of mind to our customers, ensuring that in the event of any problems with their data, recovery is only a few clicks away. VPS customers requring restoration of data must open a support request, which may be liable for a small fee to carry out any restores.
On our shared hosting service, Letshost takes care of your 4 x daily backups, you can have full control of the actual restore. With an easy click of the button you can choose from different times of backup and restore yourself with no difficulties.
Process
Instead of the old process of just backing up data, we take an exact snapshot of your entire website, databases, emails and system configuration. This way when your site or server is being restored we don't just bring back your data but actually the precise arrangement of the data at the time of backup. So if anything at all is not working, with a simple click on the backup server interface, your site will be restored to the way it was a few hours ago. On our shared hosting environment, we maintain 4 daily backups for 6 days, and then 4 weekly backups taken each weekend. therefore, you can restore a file from approx 6 hours ago, right up to 4 weeks ago, or any snapshot in between. This gives an unparallelled ability to restore files that has previously been unavailable in the web hosting industry.
Security
LetsHost have deployed a private network that connects to each web server with no direct connection to the internet. This private network connects to our backup servers. This makes backups a significantly more secure process, and also prevents any bottlenecks on the internet connections while the backup is taking place. No files on the backup server can be accessed directly from the internet. A control panel interface allows customers to restore files as required without accessing the actual files themselves. LetsHost manage over 10Tb of backup data on behalf of Irish businesses and personal customers, and takes the security and integrity of this very seriously. With an overall capacity of 28Tb or raw backup space available, LetsHost has the systems capacity to ensure your backups are both secure and available.
Control over backup
While we take care of your backups, you have full control of the actual restore. With an easy click of the button you can choose from different times of backup and restore yourself with no difficulties. We will provide access to an administration control panel that will display all of your backup snapshots, and all your files. You can then select the files you want to restore, and click the Start Restore button. Your siles will then be restored within a matter of minutes.
In addition to CDP, LetsHost also maintain "normal" daily backups of your data. This is kept in the event of a disaster and will be used for recover purposes, if ever needed. LetsHost reserve the right to levy a minimum fee of €25 + vat for any restores needed that are not carried out using CDP by the customer (any hardware issues or issues not caused by customers will be recovered free of charge).
